2.5 billion pixels

This is an article about some people in the Netherlands who made the first gigapixel panoramic photograph. you can zoom way in on the website, its quite astounding.

The finished image is 2.5 billion pixels in size - making it about 500 times the resolution of images produced by good consumer digital cameras.

The huge image of Delft was created by stitching together 600 single snaps of the Dutch city taken at a fixed spot.

If printed out in standard 300 dots per inch resolution, the picture would be 2.5m high and 6m long.

i'd love to do one a macro version of one of these of something like a rotting pig carcass.

I actually pulled some muscle in my left butt cheek, and that's what i call an achievement. Fortunately my ass is all healed up healthy again today... Can't stand a wounded ass.

A third of Americans are biblical literalists who believe that the Bible is the actual word of God and is to be taken literally, word for word.

here is their back story. so... what do you think of the back story? did the singer come out in a moment of idealism, then freak out under the bright media lights and come up with this fake story? or is he telling the truth that its a couple pals of his?

Bush is planning on keeping his newest tax cuts for the rich "revenue neutral" by getting rid of the tax writeoff for employer-provided health insurance. This is so ultra, super, mega intelligent that its just miles past our ability to understand its genius, and it just seems really really dumb. Aparently to even mention that class exists is a political crime (how you dare, kerry/edwards!), but actively declaring war on the working class? ...no problem.

How I have missed the cold war...

Looks like the cold war is back.

President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that Russia is developing a new form of nuclear missile unlike those held by other countries, news agencies reported.

...

Earlier this year, a senior Defense Ministry official was quoted as telling news agencies that Russia had developed a weapon that could make the United States' proposed missile-defense system useless. Details were not given, but military analysts said the claimed new weapon could be a hypersonic cruise missile or maneuverable ballistic missile warheads.

So... this "missile shield" bush is so keen to deploy has never proven that its effective even against missile technology we know about now, and the Russians reportedly already have new evasion techniques. Let me tell you, I'm feeling all warm and comfortable now!

Too bad no one mentioned that building a "missile shield" would mostly just be effective at resparking an arms race. Oh wait, they did.
